While it is already a key contributor to an effective and efficient global trade hub, as an infrastructure asset it is highly regarded for its potential future investment and trade diversification through increased movements and exciting capital projects.

Recognised globally as the world’s leading coal export port, Port of Newcastle’s supply chain has set a world-class benchmark in driving innovation and continuous improvement from the pit to the port. In addition to the 161 million tonnes of coal exported per annum, Port of Newcastle also handles a diverse range of 25 cargoes including dry bulk, break bulk, project, passengers and containers.

The port is managed by Port of Newcastle (PON) under a long-term lease with responsibilities which include trade and port development, cruise shipping and property leasing. As the commercial manager of the largest port on the east coast of Australia, they take pride in delivering efficient and cost effective logistics solutions for its customers.

The Finance team is at the forefront of leading change and identifying opportunities to maximise value across PON. To assist in this process they have identified the need for an additional resource and are now looking to appoint a Senior Financial Accountant. This is an exciting role that will report to and assist the Commercial Manager.

Key services of support for the role have been identified across financial and management accounting, fixed assets, financial reporting, property trust reporting, treasury and cash management and wide ranging business support. You will coordinate and lead an efficient and effective team, be actively engaged in budgeting and forecasting, manage compliance with relevant accounting standards, implement and monitor finance policies and procedures.

To be the successful candidate you will be able demonstrate an ability to quickly integrate across business operations, systems and processes and provide sound financial advice, as well as leading and energising your team. In addition to this, you will have a strong knowledge of accounting standards and ideally have some insight of the company.

You will clearly demonstrate your ability to effectively communicate and engage across a broad range of stakeholders. Your career will be supported with tertiary qualifications as well as a CAANZ/CPA designation.
