Golden Star Resources is a mid-tier gold mining company which holds a 90% equity interest in Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Limited and Golden Star (Wassa) Limited which respectively own the Bogoso/Presta and Wassa open-pit gold mines and the Hwini-Butre and Benso properties in Ghana. The Wassa mine is a conventional open-pit, using Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processing with the expected production in the range of 110,000 ounces of gold annually through the acquisition of St Jude Resources in late 2005, the company was able to obtain the high grade Hwini-Butre and Benso properties that will serve as satellite pits for mine feed for the Wassa plant.
They now seek to appoint an experienced Mining Engineer for medium and long-tem planning of the pits and stockpiles. Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the Life of Mine planning, design and optmisation of pits, department budgets and the training of local nationals. Candidates should have a minimum of five years experience in open-pit with excellent computer software competency in some or all of the following: Supac, Whittle, Gemcom and Mapinfo. An ability to communicate effectively at all levels is essential and previous experience in a developing country environment will be highly regarded.
The houses at Wassa are comfortable and include satellite television and wireless Internet. At site, there is a pool, cafeteria, pub and a newly updated gym.
