The Opportunity
Your role will be interesting and challenging and work as part of a team responsible for the safe, secure and humane management of prisoners. Working as a Trainee Correctional Officer in the Northern Territory opens up a range of career opportunities, job diversity and security.

As a Trainee Correctional Officer, key responsibilities include:
·    Supervising, monitoring and managing prisoners
·    Employing appropriate security measures to ensure the safe custody of prisoners, including monitoring property and equipment and conducting random searches for contraband
·    Advising prisoners of their rights and responsibilities while in custody
·    Ensuring prisoners maintain acceptable levels of hygiene and cleanliness by conducting regular cell inspections
·    Contributing to prisoner rehabilitation plans
·    Providing reports on prisoner rehabilitation, security, welfare and behaviour
·    Undertaking escorts (transport and supervision) of prisoners outside the correctional centre
·    Responding to emergencies (including prisoner conflict, injuries and medical crises)
·    Participating in ongoing training to maintain currency of core qualifications.

·    A salary of up to $74,504 inclusive of allowances, following training period

·    Paid training with nationally accredited qualification (CSC30115 Certificate III Correctional Practice through the NT Correctional Services RTO 1074)

What the Department of the Attorney General and Justice are looking for
To be considered for this opportunity you must;
·    Have completed Year 10 and can prove the capacity to complete a Certificate III in Correctional Practice;
·    Hold a full and current Northern Territory driving licence
·    Be competent  driving manual vehicles (you will be required to demonstrate this)
·    Be willing to obtain a current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid);
·    Possess an appropriate work visa or be an Australian / New Zealand resident
·    Be of good character, a strong communicator and organiser;
·    Demonstrate integrity, maturity and life experience.
