Technical Sales Manager

Australian Steel Mill Services (ASMS) is a manufacturing by-product reprocessor based in Port Kembla. ASMS is a JV between the Cement Australia Group and the LEVY Co (USA), a world leader in maximising the value of slag and natural aggregates. ASMS formed in 1989 to service the slag-handling contract at BlueScope Port Kembla NSW. The company is contracted to collect and treat molten slag from blast furnaces and the steel making processes and turn it into a viable product to sell into the building infrastructure, concrete, road-building and agriculture industries. The company is responsible for the processing and marketing of approximately 1.2 million tonnes of slag product per year. Slag is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable aggregate. The opportunity for an experienced Technical Sales Manager to join their team has arisen.

The position plays a pivotal role in the company, with varied responsibilities combining a range of key functions. This role manages the laboratory operations for the purpose of testing, developing and marketing products (new and existing). You will need to predict and guide research in the direction of market trends to achieve growth targets. This by-product is now used in several industrial sectors with growing applications and there are many untapped business opportunities in channels yet to be discovered.

You will contribute to cooperative research with agencies at the national and international level including but not limited to universities and reciprocal industry associations. You will leverage these relationships to contribute to sales and marketing activities for the ongoing success of the business.

To be considered for the role you will need to have a strong technical knowledge and background in raw material and construction products, metallurgy, chemical engineering or similar and sales experience within this field. It would be expected you have a relevant science or engineering degree or equivalent. You will need to be an excellent communicator and relationship builder. Experience managing teams and a high computer competency would be highly desirable.
