Maintenance Engineer

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is a major national organisation with an infrastructure footprint consisting of 8,500 kilometres of track. ARTC is responsible for managing infrastructure maintenance, capital upgrades and the movement of trains on interstate railway track across Australia, including the Hunter Valley Coal Rail Network.

ARTC is executing a significant business transformation and asset enablement program which capitalises on their extensive investment program, positioning rail as the mode of choice in the national logistics chain and now requires an experienced Rail Maintenance Engineer to join the Hunter Valley team based in Newcastle. This role is instrumental in providing specialised technical services and support on effective rail management and performance issues to the Hunter Valley Infrastructure Planning, Asset Maintenance and Project delivery teams.

Your primary objective will be to provide input and advice to the Planning Manager on the development and long-term asset management plans with an emphasis on life cycle cost, sustainability and reliability of the rail operations to ensure ARTC achieves its network performance objectives. This will involve conducting detailed analysis of data, including in field validation, from rail management systems to provide a five and ten year plans for rail and turnout grinding and re-railing requirements including rail wear, rail breaks, rail welding, rail lubrication and ultrasonic rail testing across the network.

A key indicator for your success in the role will be your willingness and effectiveness in engaging and building relationships across the extensive and geographically diverse teams throughout the network and in proactively providing knowledge transfer to business unit staff by mentoring and providing specialist advice.

While relevant tertiary qualifications are essential you are an active and engaged team member with highly developed communication and influencing skills. Your career will have sound knowledge of railway systems, including Australian standards for track infrastructure.  You will clearly demonstrate strength in project, process and change management skills, including a demonstrable logical and analytical approach to operational planning and problem solving. Your career will be supported by extensive experience across diverse operational and asset environments. Of course a total commitment to safety is essential.

ARTC embraces a diverse workforce to ensure a supportive, flexible and fair workplace in which differences between employees are respected and viewed as organisational assets. They recognise that a talented and diverse workforce is fundamental to building a commercially strong and customer-focused organisation that will give rail a competitive advantage. They are committed to hiring the best person for the job, so if this sounds like you, you are encouraged to apply.

Appointment is subject to ARTC's medical fitness standards relative to the position.  ARTC is a drug and alcohol free working environment.
